Cams are widely used in motors and children's toys. This course teaches the student how to make and apply the use of cams to a small mechanism, so as the handle is turned the axle turns a cam and neat things happen. This is a great problem-solving activity where advanced students can design some really neat mechanisms - great for science fairs! We start by looking at how simple devices create movement from one direction to another, and then dive into the big project. Each group will design and create their own cam assisted mechanism (which they keep).
Your students would be hard pressed to have so much fun exploring science (see above courses). Many rocket scientists got their start in courses like this, so if the space station looks like fun...
